- EFX 500 are the finest colors or pigments made available to you, in a high quality binder which is non toxic. All components are carefully chosen, tested and well balanced for performance. They can be considered museum/archival quality.
- EFX 500 can be used straight out of the bottle, but for more demanding artists this might not be enough. Soon you will discover that the EFX 500 range of colors are only the start of an infinite journey to control and customize the properties of your paint to suit your own specific needs.
- EFX 500 is re-wettable which means that water can still react with it after it is applied. This property can be used to create a variety of effects. Water does to EFX 500 what solvent does to PU's or polyurethane. The colorants (pigments) are ground to an ink consistency although not dye based, with an outstanding carrier that contains virtually anything a person could ask for in a fine art and/or automotive grade package.
- EFX 500 is low tack which means that it will dry to a state where dust or other particles will not adhere to it.
- EFX 500 is erasable with electric or hand held erasers. All pigments have extremely high UV/UVA ratings with a high bleed resistance to many solvent chemicals and strong alkaline materials as well as soaps. More information about this can be found in our technical papers and bulletins.
On illustration board, fine art canvas, primed metal or any other hard surface, your options are unlimited. EFX 500 is designed for the fine artist but also for the custom painter who can use it in combination with solvent based clear coats. This approach is suggested to seal the color for permanence and exterior durability. The EFX 500 low tac property helps reduce crinkling or crazing. This phenomenon which in technical terms is called COE, is often seen when using incompatible products such as standard water based paint over solvent based paint or vice versa: You can seal EFX500 with most urethane based inter-coat clear or gloss clear finishes for final clearing.
All our Special FX pigments like 24k Gold, Interference, Pearl or Flake base are offered in this EFX 500 base. Everything is inter-mixable which creates an endless array of possibilities and effects. For example, you can use the high solid pearls from EFX and add it to the Private Stock range of colors, not exceeding a 3 parts Private Stock to 1 part EFX ratio for any textiles that will be thermal set. Hard surface ratio’s like illustration board or primed metal should be based on the effect you wish to achieve. EFX 500 is where it all starts. Where it ends will only depend on you and your creativity to discover the endless possibilities of this open mixing system.
